Food glorious food (and coffee) at the Bike Stop Café

Great news for Hertfordshire bikers – you’ve now got an even more welcoming venue for socialising, with great food and drink at keen prices.

Ask any biker what the appeal is of motorcycle ownership and they’ll probably say it’s the chance to enjoy the thrill of riding, along with the opportunity to socialise in great venues. Now there’s a brand new place for bikers to get together – the Bike Stop Café in Stevenage.

As one of the UK’s longest-established motorcycle clothing and accessory businesses in the UK, Bike Stop is staffed entirely by trained and life-long bikers, so they can help whatever your needs. Now they can also feed you when you’re hungry and provide a welcoming space for you to catch up with your mates.

Launched in 1981, Bike Stop’s home is a 3000-square foot listed building in Stevenage high street. With plenty of seating capacity both upstairs and downstairs, the Bike Stop Café upholds a great British tradition – that of the motorbike café. Back in the 1960s and 1970s a raft of these sprang up across the nation to provide somewhere for bikers to congregate and they led to a new breed of bike: the café racer.

Most of these venues disappeared a long time ago. Places such as the Busy Bee, just off the A1 in Watford, enjoyed a cult following; half a century after it was demolished there’s still an annual reunion to remember it. With biking more popular than ever and in the home town of the world-renowned Vincent Motorcycles, there’s real legitimacy to the opening of the Bike Stop Café. So far the feedback has been outstanding; we’ve enjoyed comments such as “should have done it years ago”, “genius idea” along with “we don’t like the queues at the other places and we love your Lavazza coffee!”

The Bike Stop team is really keen to welcome you to its new café and is very keen to hold as many events there as possible, so if this sounds like music to your ears you know what to do. The menu contains cakes and cookies, paninis and sandwiches – plus bite-size pastries if you just want something sweet with your drink. As the perfect place to hang out with fellow bikers, we look forward to seeing you there soon.
